New Wis. data shows small job growth
MADISON - New quarterly numbers released to The Associated Press by Gov. Scott Walker's administration show the state added 37,464 private sector jobs between March 2011 and March 2012.
When factoring in the loss of government jobs during those 12 months, total job growth was just 1.1 percent.
As was done in May, Walker's Department of Workforce Development released the numbers before they have been vetted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The latest numbers released Thursday cover the first three months of 2012. The BLS is scheduled to publish them on Sept. 27.
Until those numbers are released by BLS, it is impossible to compare Wisconsin's 1.1 percent job growth over the 12-month period with any other state.
Walker says he would like to see stronger growth.
"We see job growth, but I still sense that while a great number of our businesses felt good about getting past June 5th, they were hoping for another big victory with the Supreme Court throwing out Obamacare. That didn't happen," said Walker on Midday with Charlie Sykes.
"I still believe there is national uncertainty based on whether or not the President is going to be re-elected."
