Video shows massive bonfire coming from northwest side home's backyard
MILWAUKEE- Newly released video shows huge sparks and flames coming from a backyard near 107th and Mill.
William Liebau has good reason to worry -- that's because his backyard is right next door.
Liebau captured the massive fire on his home security camera. He told TODAY'S TMJ4 that on Friday night anywhere from 50 to 70 people fueled the out of control bonfire -- by dousing it with gasoline or anything they could find.
He claims this isn't the first time.
The video shows fire crews arrive and put it out, but less than 30 minutes later the flames once again light up the sky.
"I don't know where all those people came from," said Liebau.
The bonfire started in Girthene Thompson's backyard. She hasn't seen that security camera video but told TODAY'S TMJ4 her grandson invited only five friends to that bonfire.
"Do I look like the type of person who would let a big ole party happen at my house," said Girthene Thompson. "I'm a woman of integrity I would never allow this to happen in my house."
Thompson believes that strangers found out about the private party, they came into her yard and poured gasoline on the fire.
"People heard on Facebook this was happening and they came and destroyed."
The Milwaukee Fire Department said an open fire pit isn't allowed unless it has screen around it.
