Tammy Baldwin eager to challenge Thompson in U.S. Senate race
MADISON- Democratic Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin has been campaigning for the last several months, but for the most part she was able to sit back and watch the Republican candidates beat up on each other.
Now her campaign is full steam ahead as she has challenged Thompson to three debates.
"It was negative, it was divisive," said Baldwin of the GOP U.S. Senate primary. "Tommy (Thompson) emerges with 65 percent of his own party having voted for a candidate other than him."
With the race set, Baldwin wastes no time pointing out what she calls Tommy Thompson's uphill battle.
"(He) spent the last many years with the varied monied interests in Washington who want very much to write their own rules. I think we need one set of rules for everyone," said Baldwin.
Touring the solar power company Helios Wednesday, Baldwin agrees with Thompson on one thing.
"I think the Republican primary electorate has certainly given Wisconsin voters for the fall a very clear choice."
But the agreements end there.
Baldwin claims she's fighting for middle class Wisconsin workers, and that Thompson is working for special interest groups.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Lacey Crisp asked Baldwin if she thinks Paul Ryan's VP candidacy will help boost Thompson, she said no.
Baldwin believes that it will only point out the stark differences between Thompson and herself when it comes to issues like medicare.
