Milwaukee man pleads guilty in east side hit-and-run
MILWAUKEE- A 22-year-old Milwaukee man has pleaded guilty in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a young woman on the city's east side.
Prosecutors say Douglas W. Davis struck Mai Kaw Xiong around midnight on March 15 at E. North Avenue and N. Farwell Avenue then drove off.
Xiong was in critical condition for about two months following the crash, but is recovering.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness saw a 1996 black Volkswagen Jetta pass him just south of E. North Avenue on N. Farwell Avenue when the Jetta "veered" to avoid hitting something, then saw a person "go flying" and he realized the Jetta struck someone. That witness told authorities the Jetta didn't slow down but "floored it" after striking the victim.
Davis told authorities he panicked and drove off because he was scared.
He was charged with a felony of hit-and-run, causing great bodily harm for the crash.
He will be sentenced on November 5.
