Gas line break forces evacuations in West Allis

WEST ALLIS - We Energies says that people have been evacuated after a gas line break near the corner of South 116th Street and West Greenfield Avenue.

The incident happened around 11:45 a.m.

Spokesman Brian Manthey tells Newsradio 620 WTMJ that someone working in a construction area hit the gas line, leading to a gas leak.

Manthey said crews were able to shut off the gas around 2 p.m.

The Courtyard Apartments building next door to the leak was evacuated, but the manager said no one was injured.

Traffic started moving in that intersection around 2:30 p.m.
