Many people are weighing in on Mitt Romney's selection of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate. Romney made the announcement earlier today in Norfolk, Virginia, where they held a rally on the USS Wisconsin.

Journal Sentinel Washington Bureau Chief Craig Gilbert is offering some insight on the selection. He says it not that big of a surprise considering Wisconsin's recent time in the national political spotlight.

"It certainly has a profound influence on politics on Wisconsin, and possibly the presidential election. It's a fairly dramatic decision. Big drumbeat for Paul Ryan at the end, so it didn't come as a shock, but I think it's widely seen in the political world as a somewhat risky move and one that could backfire."

Gilbert says there is a lot of buzz in Washington from both sides.

"There's happiness on both the right and the right, a lot of conservatives are getting the kind of candidate they want, and the kind of presidential candidate they wanted in the first place. There have been lingering doubts about Romney, some don't see him as a true blue conservative."

Another popular topic is the age difference between the 65-year-old Romney and 42-year-old Ryan. The two are separated in age by a generation.

"Different people will react differently to that. He's 42. For some people, that'll be a positive, fresh blood, bigger youth. For other people they'll be like 'Wow, he really looks young', and he might not be presidential enought for them. Obviously he's very poised, and very at ease in the media, I don't think he'll get the deer in headlights look like Dan Quayle, but he may just look young to some people."
