DNR lifting burning restrictions in central Wisconsin
MADISON- Recent rains are allowing the state Department of Natural Resources to lift burning restrictions in much of central Wisconsin.
The agency will lift burning restrictions at 12:01 a.m. Monday in all of Adams, Columbia, Green Lake, Marquette, Portage, Waupaca and Waushara counties, and portions of Jackson, Juneau, Monroe and Wood counties that are within DNR protection areas.
DNR wildfire prevention specialist Catherine Koele says the rains have improved the fire danger situation to the point where the agency feels comfortable allowing campfires again.
But the agency advises that drought conditions continue in much of central and southern Wisconsin.
