Milwaukee endures another near-100 degree day
MILWAUKEE - If you have air conditioning, you may be cranking it up again.
Extreme heat is returning to southeastern Wisconsin on Monday, with a heat advisory until 8:00 p.m.
For many of us, Mother Nature has already taken a toll on our lawns and plants, but Monday marked another dry, hot day.
A sprinkler in Elm Grove Village Park is working overtime.
"The grass is so dry that it feels like when you step on it, it breaks, like straw," said Donna Tyggum.
"We moved our tennis match up, our league play, one hour earlier because we've had a couple of teammates that suffered in the heat in previous matches."
Terry Kowalkowski does water aerobics three days a week to keep cool.
"Hot, hot, hot," uttered Kowalkowski.
It's also taking a major toll on our plants and flowers.
"We did get a little bit of rain, but it wasn't enough. It was enough to kind of keep the roots alive, but the plants are still very, very stressed," explained Hawk's Nursery owner Joe Kresl.
He has his crews watering plants about four times every day.
He says that's all he can do, besides hope for rainfall.
"When it rains at a nice, easy, gentle (pace) that rains all day long, that's when you get the most benefit."
Tyggum insists she's been watering her plants and flowers as much as she can, but it hasn't helped.
"They definitely don't have the beauty they've had in other years, and many have dwindled."
Flower and plant sales at Hawks' Nursery is actually up, because many homeowners are having a hard time keeping their plants alive.
