Jury rejects self-defense in Sheboygan Walmart shooting
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- A man convicted in a fatal shooting outside a Walmart store in Sheboygan could be sentenced to a maximum 78 years in prison.
A jury in Sheboygan County rejected Kou Yang's argument that he acted in self-defense when he shot and killed Pheng Lee and severely wounded Chenglung Moua last January.
The 21-year-old Yang was found guilty of first-degree reckless homicide and first-degree reckless injury Thursday. Prosecutors argued Yang was the aggressor in the confrontation in the Walmart parking lot.
The Sheboygan Press (http://shebpr.es/PpMMIa ) reports testimony showed that rival gang animosity played a role in the confrontation, although Yang said he hadn't been affiliated with a gang in two years.
