Milwaukee tries to stay cool, again, after another heat wave
MILWAUKEE - Many people in the Milwaukee area have had enough of this extreme heat, but they're doing what they can again to keep cool...yet again.
The sun is shining, the sprinklers are watering brown spots and air conditioning units are working overtime.
"I hate it," exclaimed Sandy Henry. "Winter, I can always stay cool."
She doesn't have central air in her home. She uses a room air conditioner to beat the heat, but it can't spread enough cool air to overcome several days of 90 degree-plus temperatures.
"By the end of it, it didn't help at all. My apartment was 88-100 degrees."
Tim Nolan owns Chamberlain company, an exterior remodeling business.
"We start early and quit early," explains Nolan. "The word is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate."
Inside Puhl's True Value, they're busy selling.
"We've probably tripled our sales from last year," explained Todd Koralewski from that store. He says they're selling lots of air conditioning units, fans and kiddie pools.
"The big thing we're selling now (also) is a lot of hoses, a lot of sprinklers, because (customers) want to keep their lawns watered. They want to make sure their trees are watered so they don't die."
If you're in need of air conditioning, the time to act may be now.
"I would probably say within the next two weeks. It's going to be tough to find one."
