WAUKESHA - Police have arrested at least one person after a man and woman were hurt during shooting and tactical situation in Waukesha.

Both the 45-year-old man from Pewaukee and the 42-year-old woman from Waukesha were shot. They should survive their injuries.

Waukesha Police Captain Ron Oremus told TODAY'S TMJ4's Nick Montes that the shooting happened outside an apartment complex at about 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning on South West Avenue between Richard Street and Victoria Drive.

According to Oremus, the two victims know the suspect.  They were apparently involved in some sort of altercation.

The two victims were trying to leave the area when the suspect allegedly fired and struck the victims.

They then went to a friend's apartment for help about three blocks away.

"The guy called 911, and found some towels, and then the cops came," said Adam Orlopp, a neighbor.

The tactical situation followed, and it lasted until about 5:15 a.m.

"We responded, brought out a couple armored rescue vehicles that we have, one of whom is the Sheriff's Department, one of whom is ours," said Oremus.

"We had information the suspect was a couple blocks away.  We were able to get him out cooperatively and took him into custody without incident."

The suspect surrendered after hiding in an apartment.

Authorities blocked off West Avenue near West Sunset Drive as part of the tactical situation.

Waukesha Police are investigating the reason for the shooting.

"It's nuts," said Orlopp.  "Waukesha is pretty crazy lately."

The suspect was brought to the Waukesha County Jail.
