Pinterest saving people big bucks
It's the fastest growing website of all time and women all over the county are calling it an obsession, but what you may not know, is how much money you can save every month using Pinterest. We meet one person who will show you first hand, the real cost savings.
Inside one quiet home, a dangerous addiction has taken over.
"I was like, oh my gosh, this is the best thing ever, in the whole world," says Kelly Carney, laughing.
It's called Pinterest, and Kelly admits, she was skeptical at first
"I was like, another site to join, I don't have time for this," she says.
But like many ladies, after one trip to the site, she was hooked. Everything from fashion and recipes, to home decorating and beauty tips, you can find it all in one place.
But Kelly says, what she recently discovered on the site, has changed her life, a "do-it-yourself" section that can save you big bucks. Kelly takes us on a tour of her home to find the hundreds of dollars she has saved, starting in the laundry room
"So I made my own laundry detergent," she says heading for the washing machine.
Kelly says she would cringe just looking at the cost of store bought detergent.
"$30 for laundry detergent is really expensive," says Kelly.
Finding a recipe for homemade detergent on Pinterest, she set out to give it a try.
"The whole thing cost me $10," Kelly says pointing to the ingredients, "and just one tablespoon of this per each load is all it takes, this will probably last me three or four months."
Once her friends heard, they also wanted to try it out, and using another tip from Pinterest, she handcrafted it....as a gift.
"So on to the bedroom," Kelly says walking into the other room, "you see everywhere now…these chalkboards," she says.
Kelly found a framed chalkboard she loved on Pottery Barn, for a hefty $150! But a Pinterest idea sent her to a local salvage yard where she found an old cabinet door. With a little sanding and paint......viola! And it only cost her $40.
That's not all, she saved $100 by making her own laundry sorter, and countless other small decorations around the home. All-together, hundreds of dollars in savings, by simply, making it yourself.
A phenomenon all its own, Pinterest has become the fastest growing website of all time. In February alone, it drove more people to retail sites than Twitter, Google Plus, Linkedin and You-Tube combined. And with the added bonus of a cost savings to you, Kelly says the addiction can even be somewhat overwhelming
"My boyfriend the other day was like, you are banned from Pinterest for like three weeks...at least," says Kelly, laughing.
