GREENFIELD - Greenfield Fire crews are responding to a gas line issue on Highway 100 that led to the closure of both directions of that road.

The fire department said the issue was located near the corner of South 108th Street and West Layton Avenue.

We Energies told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jodi Becker that a construction crew struck a gas service line there.

Utility crews arrived at the area within five minutes of the gas line strike.  Those crews shut off the gas to the area as they try to repair the line.

Both directions of the highway were closed between West Cold Spring Road and West Layton Avenue.  That highway has been re-opened.

Workers in the area noted a smell of gas in the area.  There was no initial word of any evacuations.
