MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Bike polo enthusiasts from around North America are gathering in Milwaukee this weekend.

The North American Hardcourt Bicycle Polo Championships is taking place at Washington Park from Friday through Sunday. It's free and open to the public.

Players are trying for spots at the World Hardcourt Bicycle Polo Championships in Geneva, Switzerland in August.

Organizers say the most intense competition will happen during the finals on Sunday afternoon.

The games are played with two teams of three players on bikes. They use mallets to move street hockey balls into the goals.

The Milwaukee Bicycle Polo Club is one of the organizers.
