Some seniors in Bay View managing through heat with air conditioning

BAY VIEW- Older people have trouble staying cool in this dangerous heat.
The moment you step outside you can feel the humidity and people working in construction zones are forced to bear with the heat.
But imagine living in a 25 story high rise and no working air conditioning. Some seniors in Bay View are facing that reality.
Along the lakefront on South Shore Drive, those living high above are relying on a cool lake breeze these days.
At Bay View Terrace, residents are forced to leave windows open in the 25 story building. Back in May, the air conditioning unit broke.
The management hopes to have air circulating again by mid July.
Bill Brackman loves his view over looking Lake Michigan but he admits the timing of the estimated $700,000 system couldn't be worse.
"It's going to be hot here in this place," said Brackman.
There are 145 condos in the high rise and many seniors live there. The management realizes it's a huge inconvenience so they have equipped some units with portable air conditioning units, but they admit there aren't enough to go around.
Many people are forced to deal with these temperatures and the building does have a community room with working air. They're asking residents to keep a close eye on each other during this heatwave.
