MILWAUKEE- Temperatures are soaring into the 90s Wednesday, and Thursday the humidity really kicks in and that's prompted the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for all of southeast Wisconsin from noon until 8 p.m.

Milwaukee Health Commissioner Bevan Baker said it's important to check in on your neighbors and relatives during the extreme heat.

"This is an important time to check on your neighbors, check on friends -- particularly those who are vulnerable to these heat related concerns," said Baker.  "We want individuals to avoid strenuous activity outdoors and if they are outdoors they need to hydrate."

Baker also suggested that people should seek out air conditioning and drink plenty of water during the extreme heat.

According to Baker, "One should never, ever leave young children or pets in cars -- even for a few minutes in this extreme heat or moderately warm weather."

Baker also suggested that people keep an especially close eye on young children and the elderly.
