Bristol boy, 4, drowns in family pool
VILLAGE OF BRISTOL- A Bristol boy drowns in the family pool.
It happened just before noon Tuesday when the four-year-old boy's mother left him in the care of his eight-year-old sibling while she was busy.
She later went looking for little Derrick, and found his lifeless body in the pool. She began CPR while rescue crews made their way over to the home. They tried for another 30 minutes, but it was too late.
Sara Strenger has two young children of her own. "My heart goes out to that family more than you know," said Strenger. "The next moment trying to balance it all, it's really hard you know, I can't imagine being in the place of that parent."
TODAY'S TMJ4 spoke with Derrick's father briefly who, struggling through tears, handed TODAY'S TMJ4's Annie Scholz a written statement:
"It was a devastating accident. The family is grieving their loss. Derrick was a beautiful four-year-old boy that is greatly missed by his family."
A parent's worst nightmare, realized in an instant.
"It's hard because you think you have it all covered. Just when you think you have it all covered, it's not always that scenario," said Strenger.
TODAY'S TMJ4 was told by the Kenosha County sheriff's department that the case is open, and they are still investigating.
