7 take steps towards filing lawsuits against MPD over strip searches

MILWAUKEE- Seven people who claim they were illegally strip searched by Milwaukee police officers have taken the first step toward filing lawsuits.
The alleged victims say they want justice and want to keep this from happening to anybody else.
TODAY'S TMJ4 has talked to several alleged victims about these strip searches.
Attorney Jonathan Safran took these cases with some of his clients saying they were stripped searched for no apparent reason.
"These are inhumane types of actions in my mind and no reasonable reason for why it would need to be done," said Safran.
So Safran filed seven notice of injury claims for the alleged victims. The court documents claim MPD broke into a home without a search warrant, performed illegal strip searches, and illegal body cavity searches.
"We are not just going to let these type of things happen with out taking some kind of action for those individuals," argued Safran.
A lot of the focus has been on the seven officers and one supervisor from District 5, but the victims' attorney says he believes there has been a widespread problem with this all over the city.
"One of the cases that I have -- actually 2 of the cases reflect officers at the 7th District brought in a 5th District officer to do the body cavity search there, so obviously its much more wide spread and known," claimed Safran.
TODAY'S TMJ4 spoke with Deputy City Attorney Rudolph Konrad on the phone Tuesday morning and he had no comment about the court filings.
The John Doe investigation surrounding those officers in this case continues.
