"I think he has a decent chance," says expert on Paul Ryan as Romney's VP
JANESVILLE- Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is considering Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, as his VP running mate.
Representative Ryan told TODAY'S TMJ4 several times that he can't consider a job he hasn't been asked to do, but this weekend Ryan was with Romney at a resort in Utah with other Republican fundraisers and said he had submitted papers to be vetted.
But many are skeptical if Ryan will make the final cut.
"I think he has a decent chance," said UW-Madison political science professor Charles Franklin.
Just one week ago, Governor Mitt Romney made a campaign stop in U.S. Representative Paul Ryan's hometown of Janesville.
Romney recently told reporters that Florida Senator Marco Rubio was being vetted, and Ryan admitted he too is being considered.
But Charles Franklin said Rep. Ryan has more of an appeal than Senator Rubio, even though Florida has more electoral votes.
"(Rubio) has less experience," said Franklin. "Paul Ryan has lots of experience. No one would question whether his experience is enough."
But Franklin admits Ryan too has his drawbacks
"Democrats used the Ryan budget proposal as an attack point in the past," noted Franklin.
So what do Wisconsinites think?
"I think he has a better shot than most," said John Hayes.
"I think there's several people that are up and running. I'm just going to wait and see," said Olive Taylor.
With other names like Ohio Senator Rob Portman, Condoleezza Rice and many more. Franklin says for now, it's all just speculation.
"We've probably not named who the final VP pick will be."
Franklin suggests that Romney won't make any official announcement until the days leading up to the Republican convention in the end of August, to build up more interest.
