BURLINGTON- Dozens of firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at a family farm in a marshy area in Burlington.

A few homes were evacuated due to a brush fire that grew quickly Monday afternoon.

Fire crews were worried about the fire spreading to homes in the area, but that didn't happen.

The fire was in a remote area and firefighters had to use ATVs to get to the worst parts of the fire.

"The biggest challenge was getting to the fire.  We responded to multiple locations to try to get access to the fire," said town of Burlington Fire Chief Ed Umnus.  "Being a swampy area, we do have a few ATVs that are stuck."

The dry ground and windy conditions caused the fire to spread to about 80 areas.

Fire crews arrived on the scene around 2 p.m. and they spent hours putting out the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
