MILWAUKEE - Investigators were heading back to the corner of North 12th and West Vliet Streets on Monday to expand their investigation into the cause of a five-alarm fire on Milwauke's north side.
In the meantime, a community organization that was forced to close because of smoke damage from the fire was set to re-open.
The Marcia P. Coggs Human Services Center has been closed for three days because of damage caused by the five-alarm fire across the street.
More than 150 firefighters battled the fire that closed the Food Castle market.
The fire caused walls to collapse on three sides of the building.
It sent smoke high in the sky, even bringing near-zero visibility conditions for some drivers on the street and I-43 near downtown.
"All the cars were stopping, we didn't know which way to go. I had to turn around and go the opposite way," said one driver.
That smoke brought heavy damage upon the Coggs Center, but it did not catch fire.
"You could smell smoke, but there wasn't any billowing inside the Coggs building," explained Hunger Task Force Executive Director Sherri Tussler.
The State Fire Marshal, ATF and local fire investigators will continue looking into the cause of the fire.
