Abele anticipating Tuesday's Park East development meeting
MILWAUKEE- The first official meeting of the Park East Advisory Workgroup takes place Tuesday morning.
It's been a decade since demolition of the Park East freeway began and there's very little to show for it. "There's not jobs there, there's not revenue being created there and it's not exactly a selling point for downtown," said Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele to Wisconsin's Afternoon News with John Mercure.
"I don't believe it's the role of government to lecture and limit, it's the role of government to listen," said Abele, who will chair the meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Abele is confident a new committee of more than two dozen developers, lawmakers and stakeholders will help turn the land into a developmental success. "This is an opportunity if we let it be," said Abele. "Getting better at that is part of why we are having this panel get together."
According to a press release issued by Abele's communicators director Brendan Conway, "The workgroup will also consider ideas that came from a Public Policy Forum discussion in May that focused on the future of the Park East."
