Shorewood dog bite victim talks
SHOREWOOD - A woman was severely bitten in the face, and the dog that attacked her was still on the loose Friday morning
Oakland Avenue is a popular promenade for dogs and their owners.
That's why a woman probably did not think twice Thursday afternoon -- before approaching a stray.
Dog owner Lisa Swartzmiller says she would have done the same thing. She bent down to check the stray's collar, but the dog attacked.
Police say it's the first they've heard of an angry stray in the neighborhood.
"We don't know the dog is, we don't know who the owner is, but we're really interested in finding the dog and the owner," said Shorewood Police Lt. Paul Sullivan.
Police spent the night cruising streets around the corner of Oakland and Olive -- peering into yards and down alleys in search of the stray. The dog had a collar and that gives police hope it was up to date on its shots.
That a collared dog would attack -- has Lisa Swartzmiller second guessing her original instincts.
That dog is described as black with a white chest, around 60 pounds and wearing a collar.
