Construction finishes early, lanes re-open on I-94 eastbound
MILWAUKEE - Drivers who have had to experience delays and traffic jams while traveling eastbound on I-94 through Milwaukee County have relief on Thursday
They no longer have orange barrels and lane closures to have to handle after the early completion of a major construction project.
"The commuters will see all three lanes open and all the ramps," Jeff Bohen, who is with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Michelle Richards.
Crews closed lanes for months of I-94 between 75th Street and 26th Street as part of a repair project on the East-West freeway.
All lanes were opened for rush hour traffic on Thursday, ahead of schedule.
"We had some good weather, coming out of this light winter we had. We were able to get a jump on this work. Plus, crews were working 24 hours a day in some cases to get some of the bridge work done and open it up earlier a little bit earlier than expected," said Bohen.
