Search for hit-and-run driver who struck elderly Sussex man
SUSSEX - Authorities in Sussex were taking Thursday to try and find a hit-and-run driver who struck an 84-year-old man.
Camillo Damico was listed in critical condition Thursday morning at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls.
Cheri Ehrlich and her son Jordan couldn't believe it when they heard Damico, their neighbor and friend, was hit by a vehicle.
"Super nice, he'll stop and talk, he'll give his advice on yard work," said Cheri Ehrlich.
According to her son Jordan, "He'll be walking down the road here, me and my sister, we like him a lot, we'll go down and talk to him really nice man."
Damico was known for his neighborhood walks. He was on Good Hope Road near Maple Avenue just before 7 Wednesday morning when a driver hit him, and kept on going. Making it even tougher for authorities, they have almost nothing to go on. They haven't found any witnesses and Damico himself wasn't able to give a description.
"We are really hoping someone can come forward and provide any information to the sheriff's department help us out with our investigation," said Waukesha County Sheriff's Lt. Torin Misko
Damico's son works for the fire department and was one of the first responders. He had no idea it was his dad who was hit until he got to the scene. It's enough to make the people who know the family furious that anyone could be capable of something so heartless.
"To find out that something like this has happened is devastating," said Cheri Ehrlich.
Damico is in critical condition at Community Memorial Hospital. The family declined to comment, understandably emotional about what happened.
Authorities are asking anybody with information to contact the Waukesha County sheriff's department at (262) 548-7122.
