Marshals: Milwaukee DA says deputies were justified in shooting Lopez
MILWAUKEE - The U.S. Marshals Service has announced that, according to Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, two deputy marshals were justified in using deadly force against shooting victim Mario Lopez.
Lopez was injured when the shooting happened on May 16 at the corner of West Forest Home and Lincoln Avenues.
According to a news release, Lopez fled in a vehicle and a foot chase. He then reportedly refused to surrender and turned towards deputy marshals with a handgun.
The Marshals Service says he tripped on the pavement at the corner and reached for his handgun.
That's when, according to the Marshals Service, deputies shot Lopez and medically assisted him i na way that "may very well have saved his life."
