Mother says son, 5, making progress after crashes including hit-and-run

MILWAUKEE - A five-year-old boy is making what is being described as small progress after being listed in critical condition following a pair of crashes.
Robert Torres' mother told TODAy'S TMJ4 she is encouraged Tuesday night by her son's progress. New information from police has her hopeful of finding the hit-and-run driver.
"He didn't even have a fever today, so I was real happy," said the boy's mother, Roneeka Broom.
Those little victories give Broom hope. Hope that her son, 5-year-old Robert Torres Jr., will survive. "Today he's doing much better. They removed the bump from his head and he was doing a lot more moving around and responding as if he know I was there today," said Broom.
He's in critical condition at Children's Hospital.
A driver hit the boy as he was crossing North Teutonia Saturday, but never stopped.
Then, a second car hit Robert.
Robert's mom says police gave her a positive update Tuesday. "They said they think they may have the second driver of the second car. And I'm hoping that she can help them with any information on the first driver."
Some of you have asked us how you can help -- wanting to create a reward fund to find the hit-and-run driver.
Police told TODAY'S TMJ4 they don't have one set up.
But the compassion of strangers willing to give, moves this mother to her core.
"I think that is so awesome and I just love how the community and other people are reaching out to me and my son. It just makes me really joyous," said Broom.
Police are looking for a tan four door car -- possibly an Oldsmobile.
It would likely have front end and windshield damage.
