MPS may avoid some teacher layoffs with approved budget
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Public Schools District could avoid having to make some previously planned teacher layoffs next year.
The MPS Board approved a budget Thursday night of more than $976 million.
That budget includes an extra $20 million for teacher positions and staffings.
The district saved $10 million because of contract negotiations.
