Mixed reaction to Walker's win in divided Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE - The results of the gubernatorial recall race have become the talk of Wisconsin, regardless of where people stand.
People's opinions have been mixed, with many who are happy and many who are disappointed with Gov. Walker's win in the recall election.
"I think it's great. It's fantastic," said Walker supporter Dan Korinek at Ma Fischer's on Milwaukee's east side.
Korinek likes how the Governor has been handling the state and key issues.
"I think the main thing was how he addressed the union problem that we have."
Stephanie Schultz sees it differently.
"Knowing a lot of firemen and police officers, I felt that it was their right to have their bargaining rights and taking those away wasn't really fair to them," said Schultz.
She was hoping Barrett would win the gubernatorial recall election.
"I'm really shocked. I wasn't expecting that."
The news gave a potential clue to the future to someone from out of state who has been watching the recall election closely.
"We feel that it will dictate the direction of the presidential election," said Russell, who comes from New York.
Most people agreed that the state is very divided, but one Democrat who watched results in Wauwatosa says working together is necessary for solving the problems of our state, particularly in Milwaukee.
"We need to bridge the gap between the two...to come up with solutions to move forward. We've got to come up with solutions for Milwaukee, to get the education system back to where it needs to be, and it's going to take both parties in order to do it," said Raquel Maldonado, a Democrat.
A Republican who, like Maldonado, watched the results at Cafe Hollander in Wauwatosa also says Milwaukee should be a focus of the next steps Walker should take.
"Come together, work hard, get Milwaukee moving forward...we need jobs in Milwaukee, and I really believe the Governor has a great plan to move forward."
