Walker, Barrett campaign on final day before recall election
FITCHBURG, Wis. (AP) -- Republican Gov. Scott Walker says he's not worried about a recount as he makes his final campaign stops ahead of Tuesday's recall election.
Walker faces Democrat Tom Barrett in a contest spurred by Walker's contentious plan to strip most public workers of nearly all their union rights. Walker is only the third U.S. governor to face a recall.
Polls show a tight race. Walker told reporters during a tour of a plastics plant in Fitchburg Monday morning he expects things will be close but he's not thinking about a recall. He says he's focused on telling voters the union restrictions helped balance the state budget.
Walker planned a number of other campaign stops across the state Monday. Barrett planned to spend his day in western and northern Wisconsin.
