Family holds vigil for 13 yr old they say wrongly accused of theft
MILWAUKEE - Grief and sadness turn to anger Saturday outside the home of Darius Simmons, as family members hold a vigil in his honor.
It's the same location where the 13 year old was shot to death Thursday as his mother watched.
Family members say her pain is unbearable.
The criminal complaint states 75 year old John Spooner, who lives next door, confronted Simmons about a burglary at Spooner's home.
The victim's aunt tells Today's TMJ4 that the teen was in school when the theft happened.
When Milwaukee police got to the scene, they say they found Spooner with a gun and that he told them he shot the boy.
The family has set up a Darius Simmons memorial fund to help with burial costs.
It is at Tri-City National Bank.
Today's TMJ4's Todd Hicks has more.
