Teen arrested for shooting arrow that hit 7-year-old girl
CAMPBELLSPORT - A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for shooting an arrow that injured a 7-year-old girl, authorities announced Friday.
According to investigators, the boy had shot at a squirrel when he heard a young girl scream. The teenager, and a 17-year-old friend were apparently afraid to come forward.
Aryanna Schneeberg was hospitalized after the arrow lodged into her back. She's now recovering at home.
Families in Campbellsport anxiously awaited this announcement. "Parents certainly don't want people to think that there's someone out there randomly shooting children with arrows," said Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink.
That boy told detectives he was aiming at a squirrel, then heard girls screaming, but did not speak up -- fearing the consequences.
Michelle Schneeberg is the seven-year-old girl's grandmother and told TODAY'S TMJ4, "I'd ask him what were you thinking and obviously he wasn't...That it took so long for him to fess up. That's ridiculous."
Early in the search, the suspect and a 17-year-old friend told detectives they had nothing to do with the arrow. When these investigators came back a second time, one friend was first to confess .
"It's important that you understand there's a very strong possibility that you could remain in secure detention," said judge Gary Sharpe.
The mother of the suspect did not want to comment on the case.
