Wrestling coach arrested in child sex sting
DELAVAN - A 31-year-old wrestling coach from Elkhorn has been arrested in Delavan for allegedly trying to meet up with a young boy for sex.
Delavan police say the man was arrested at a middle school, after undercover detectives arranged a meeting with him.
"Our detective bureau had an undercover operation in regards to suspected activity, and had set up a meet with the suspect," said Police Chief Timothy O'Neill.
The meeting happened at Phoenix Middle School in Delavan, where the suspect was arrested.
He is a director at a wrestling gym in Elkhorn that serves several schools in Walworth County.
Members of an Elkhorn wrestling club told TODAY'S TMJ4 they are in shock. "I really don't know how to think about it," said former student Kyle Mountford.
The coach faced a judge for the first time Thursday and prosecutors laid out their case. They told the judge, the coach started texting a member of the club. Everything started off friendly. Then it turned into requests for sex.
"The defendant a coach had texted messaged him regarding oral sex," said prosecutors.
Some of the coach's former students stand by him. "(Coach) is a good hearted guy, ever since I known him, he was always willing to help anybody, in this case he just gone a little to far," said former student Rory Johnson.
That wrestling coach has not yet been charged.
