Dane County shelter seeks help caring for horses
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Dane County Humane Society is asking for donations to help care for 16 horses that were surrendered to its care in recent weeks.
Humane Society spokeswoman Gayle Viney says eight were given up by a man who was evicted from his home. Eight others were turned over from a farm near Brooklyn.
Viney says there have been situations where people gave up horses because they could no longer afford the hay or alfalfa, and now those costs are becoming an issue for the Humane Society.
She tells WKOW-TV (http://bit.ly/JNGbEU ) it's expensive for the shelter to cover the costs. She asks that people donate to their Horse Fund or adopt one of the six horses currently up for adoption.
