Milwaukee alderman wants new entertainment center downtown
MILWAUKEE- A Milwaukee alderman is throwing his support behind a new Bradley Center. But he doesn't want construction to stop there.
Alderman Terry Witkowski believes Milwaukee should build a new entertainment center.
Alderman Witkowski isn't alone in his thoughts for a new Bucks stadium. Bucks owner Herb Kohl, on multiple occasions, has likened the idea of a new stadium and even said he would contribute some of his money to build a new stadium. Kohl won't say just how much he's willing to contribute for new arena.
"Let's think not necessarily Senator Kohl's dollar, but in general if we're building something downtown -- let's think bigger than the basketball arena and a parking lot," said Alderman Witkowski. "Actually make a center and have hotel, office building living quarters, entertainment, restaurants, shops can we make it something big."
But thinking more than NBA Bucks begs a big question -- where will the money to build come from.
The alderman is hoping tax dollars won't be necessary, but told TODAY'S TMJ4, "I would be OK with a small tax increase....my dreams on this is something that's mostly private funding as well."
A national economist previously told Newsradio 620 WTMJ the concerns about using public funds to build a new stadium.
Witkowski says now is the time for the new stadium. As of now, Alderman Witkowski has no private company on board for the big dream.
