LAKE MILLS - The Wisconsin State Patrol says that two people were hospitalized after being injured in a head-on freeway crash.

The crash happened at about 4:35 p.m. Thursday on I-94 westbound at Highway 254 near Lake Mills.

According to the State Patrol, a 23-year-old man was driving westbound in the left lane of I-94 when they put on the brakes as they saw traffic slowing down.

The driver's vehicle skidded in heavy rain and left the road, going into the median.

A 40-year-old man driving eastbound on I-94 saw the other vehicle coming toward him and tried to steer left to avoid it, but the vehicles crashed head-on.

A medical helicopter took the 40-year-old man to a hospital with what authorities described as serious, but not life threatening injuries.

The 23-year-old man had injuries which officials described as minor.
