Mayville teacher made first court appearance on sexual assault charges

FOND DU LAC- Shannon Cardinal made her first appearance via video link in Fond du Lac County Friday morning. The Mayville High School teacher was charged with six counts each of child enticement and sexual assault of a student by school staff.
Prosecutors say the 43-year-old had an alleged sexual relationship with a former male student. According to the criminal complaint, the relationship began with texting between the two.
The teen told investigators, he had sexual intercourse with Cardinal at her home in the Village of Oakfield several times.
He also told investigators she even traveled to Iowa for sex after he moved out of state. The teacher was arrested Wednesday after school leaders were alerted to the alleged misconduct on Monday. Cardinal could face 186 years behind bars if found guilty.
She is scheduled to return to court in June.
