Wisconsin organic food guide prepared
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state has prepared a guide to how organic food is produced and labeled at farmer's markets, grocery stores and on-farm stores.
The free 20-page guide is available on the website of the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Jennifer Casey, a registered dietitian and member of the Organic Advisory Council, says the guide can help consumers navigate the sometimes overwhelming array of food choices, labels and claims.
The guide describes organic farm production methods, what the label really means, and ways to find local certified organic farms, processors and handlers.
