Wisconsin loses 4,300 private sector jobs in March
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin lost 4,300 private sector jobs in March, a bad report for Gov. Scott Walker as he nears a June 5 recall election.
The latest totals were reported Thursday by the state Department of Workforce Development.
Despite the one-month drop in March, Wisconsin has added 15,600 private sector jobs this year.
Walker is still far off pace for delivering on his promise to create 250,000 new private-sector positions by the end of his first term.
The state has added just 5,900 private sector jobs through March compared with before Walker took office in January 2011.
The state's unemployment rate for March dropped slightly from 6.9 percent to 6.8 percent.
