MPD not addressing questions yet about aggressive OWI arrest last week
MILWAUKEE- Milwaukee police aren't addressing questions yet regarding an officer that punched a man's head during an arrest in downtown Milwaukee last Thursday.
TODAY'S TMJ4 was at District 3 police station Monday afternoon to talk about an incident over the weekend involving a drunk driver striking a MPD car -- injuring two MPD officers.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Annie Scholz asked about the incident from last week, also involving a drunk driver, but a police spokesperson made it very clear, that topic was off the table.
The viral video showed an MPD officer striking Jeff Strasser's head into the pavement. According to a police statement, Strasser also ignored a stop sign, and drove erratically before almost hitting several people in a parking lot. Strasser himself, admits he wasn't in control of a friend's Lamborghini. "I didn't even know how to drive the thing," said Strasser. "I was in first gear the whole time driving this thing."
But so far, the department has refused to take questions about what happened. "And we're done. Thanks, thanks a lot," said MPD spokesperson Anne E. Schwartz. "We put out a statement last week, Friday."
That statement saying in part, "one officer delivered focused strikes to gain compliance and control as Strasser was resisting attempts to place handcuffs on him."
An expert at Waukesha County Technical College talked to TODAY'S TMJ4 about the incident.
