MILWAUKEE- Sewer insurance homeowner Emil Mateicka believes he's being scammed.

"It came in a City of Milwaukee envelope and it says Service Lines Warranty all over the thing," Mateicka says he's never hear of before.

The Service Line Warranties of America logo is on the city's letterhead. Its business is legit, offering city homeowners a new affordable sewer insurance program, made possible through the National League of Cities.

"This is an opportunity for residents whoever experienced that $6 or $700 bill from a licensed contractor," Alderman Joe Davis says.

The optional insurance costs homeowners, who are responsible for their sewer lines, either $9.50 per month or one $100 for a year to cover sizable repairs.

"If the line becomes clogged or blocked or crush that is when the coverage for the warranty begins," Brad Carmichael with Service Line Warranties of America says.

Alderman Davis says that was part of the problem with flooding in his district back in 2010.

Service Line Warranties of America gave $57,000 to help homeowners with costs.  Although Mateicka admits to having sewer problems he is not going to buy the insurance. "I'll take my chances I guess," he says.

And Alderman Davis says they already received 500 calls for the program, 200 enrollments in just two days.  For more information on the insurance program call Services Lines Warranty at (877) 475-1641 or go to their their website.
