RACINE - The Racine Police Department says that officers have killed one pit bull, shot another, and arrested two men after an incident in the city.

A police spokesman says that officers went to an apartment on the 800 block of Hamilton Street to respond to a report of two men fighting inside the apartment.

As they went into the apartment building's hallway, two pit bulls charged toward the officers.

Police say that an officer shot one pit bull, which went into the apartment.

Another pit bull was shot, but then lunged at an officer and bit his lower leg.  The other officer shot and killed that pit bull.

Police then arrested the men who lived in the apartment on suspicion of domestic abuse and disorderly conduct.

Countryside Humane Society has been taking care of the injured pit bull.
