Deputies ID 14-year-old pulled from Menomonee River

UPDATE: The drowning victim has been identified as Van Sang Vanmauipial, 14, of Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.


WAUWATOSA - The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner says a 14-year-old boy pulled from the Menomonee River on Saturday afternoon has died at Children's Hospital.

Law enforcement and fire crews from Wauwatosa and Milwaukee were called to the scene around 3 p.m. on Saturday after the boy was swimming with other children in the river at Hoyt Park. The boy went under and did not resurface,

The Milwaukee Fire Department's Dive Rescue Team located the child in the river and was able to pull him ashore.

He was transported to Children's Hospital, but the young man was unable to recover.

His name and the exact cause of death were not released.
