CAMPBELLSPORT - A third teenage girl died after a sports utility vehicle traveled off a rural road in Fond du Lac County early Saturday morning.

Katie Berg, 16, died at Froedert Hospital, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office said.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened about 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Beechnut Road north of Highway 67 in the town of Ashford.

"I just couldn't believe what had happened," said Campbellsport High School student Megan Meidelbach. "It's just shocking to hear how this happened so quick."

Fifteen-year-old Sabrina Stahl and 17-year-old Caitlin Scannell died at the scene. Four teenagers remained in serious condition and two others were in satisfactory condition at area hospitals.

Speed and failure to wear seat belts appear to be factors. Alcohol is not believed to be involved.

"Our preliminary investigation indicates speed is a significant factor in the crash," explained Fond du Lac Sheriff's Lt. Rick Olig. "We talked to the driver they didn't indicate there was anything wrong with their vehicle or there was anything wrong with the conditions."
Parents and family gathered Saturday at Campbellsport High School.
