RACINE - An investigation Thursday night into recall petition fraud after a man's name is found four times on a petition against a state senator.

TODAY'S TMJ4 talked to three people Thursday -- who say their names were forged on petitions to recall Van Wanggaard, including a woman who wonders if her son forged her name.

At first glance, you might think Jeff Demet has quite the axe to grind with his state senator.

Demet's signature appears four times on petitions to recall Van Wanggaard.

There's just one problem.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Steve Chamraz: "Did you sign that?"

Jeff Demet: "No, I didn't."

TODAY'S TMJ4's Steve Chamraz: "You apparently signed it a couple times."

Jeff Demet: "I didn't sign anything."

TODAY'S TMJ4's Steve Chamraz: "Well it's on there."

Jeff Demet: "But, I didn't do it."

Demet's name was first discovered by Tea Party activist Ken Brown.  "We've been hearing stories for months about this Steve, where people say 'I signed 80 times' or 'I signed up Vickie McKenna or Mark Belling's name,'" said Brown.

In this case -- there appears to be a family connection.  Jeff Demet's forged name appears on a petition apparently circulated by his brother, Mark.

TODAY'S TMJ4 stopped by his house Thursday night looking for some answers and after meeting his mother, Mary -- was left with even more questions.

Mary Demet also says a recall petition has her name on it, yet she didn't sign it.

TODAY'S TMJ4 hasn't heard back from Mark Demet.  But he may soon be hearing from the Racine County Sheriff's Office.  It has launched an investigation into the forged signatures.

  1. I saw Charlie's name on one.

As if this wasn't expected. I don't know the process when people signed; proof of identity, etc., or if you just walk up and sign. If it is the latter then anyone can sign it, even a conservative. Its all a joke
  2. Verify the Recall has created a "no sign" list. If you did not sign a petition to recall Governor Walker and would like to be notified if your name/address appears on one, sign up here:

  3. Mark Demet should now be charged with election tampering, voter fraud, or whatever rule he broke. Any lawyers on here? Are we able to file a class action lawsuit against the recall movement? Thanks again lefty's for ruining our states job growth.
  4. The obvious solution is to stop this insanity and drop all recalls.
The democrat party should apologize, reimburse any taxpayer expenses and promise to cooperate in any investigations.
