Death investigation after Waukesha woman's body found
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Police said Monday they were conducting a death investigation after the body of a woman from Waukesha was found behind a store on the city's north side.
Police told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Dan O'Donnell that they were calling it a homicide investigation, though they did not confirm that a murder was committed.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Melissa McCrady says the body was found around 7:00 a.m. Monday morning in an alley behind JL Superstore, near the corner of North 22nd Street and West Capitol Drive on Milwaukee's north side.
A woman living in a nearby house said she saw a pair of white tennis shoes and called 911, leading investigators to come to the scene.
"It's just a dead body laying over there behind the supply store," said Tammy Smith about what she saw Monday after dropping her kids off at school.
"I just want to give my condolence to the family of the one that's found here. I've been in this neighborhood for years, and it's just a sad thing to see."
