WEST BARABOO, Wis. (AP) -- The body of a 66-year-old West Baraboo woman was found in her home following a fire.

Ellen Jerdee's body was discovered by firefighters as they responded to a fire at her home at 11 a.m. Friday.

Baraboo Fire Chief Kevin Stieve tells the Baraboo News Republic there was no smoke showing as firefighters arrived, but the windows were stained black by smoke. He says Jerdee's husband was staying with relatives and was not in the home at the time. The family's dog also died in the fire.

Stieve says the home had moderate fire and heat damage, but he did not have a damage estimate. He says the cause remains under investigation by the Baraboo Fire Department and the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.
