Badger Guns has new name, new owner

WEST MILWAUKEE - For years, embattled Badger Guns owners have refused to talk on camera. However, new owner Michael Allan agreed to answer questions from TODAY'S TMJ4 on Tuesday.
"You do have to have a certain level of accountability for every person you deal with," Allan said. "I don't think any other business is really like that.
Allan said he is an Iraq War Army veteran. He bought the embattled firearms dealership from his brother Adam Allan. Their father was once an owner of the business.
"My family's got a bad rap because of the actions of the others," Michael Allan told TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Tom Murray. "Instead of acknowledging what the real problem is, it's a lot easier to point the finger at the gun store."
The shop's new name is Brew City Shooter Supply. The new owner is hoping to shake the reputation of his family's business.
Investigators say weapons bought at Badger Guns have been used by felons to shoot Milwaukee police officers. Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn is not convinced a new owner means real change.
"We're going to keep an eye on it," Flynn said Tuesday. "Generally, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior."
Badger Guns' past even attracted the attention of Daniel Webster, a researcher at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. In a recently published study, he found weapons from Badger Guns were far more likely to end up in criminals' hands after national gun laws were relaxed.
"Badger has, for years, sold almost two-thirds of the guns recovered in crime in Milwaukee," Webster said.
Facing scrutiny from the federal government, Badger lost its license to sell weapons late last year.
When asked if he intends to sell firearms in the future, Michael Allan said, "I'd like to, yes."
Brew City Shooter Supply is currently selling equipment and operating an indoor shooting range.
