WAUKESHA- A Waukesha County judge ruled Thursday that the Government Accountability Board has to verify signatures on recall petitions against the governor.

Judge Mac Davis ordered state election officials to "take affirmative steps" to remove fake or duplicate names from recall petitions.

The GAB now has to look for bogus names, duplicate names and check if a signature is from a valid voter on recall petitions.

GAB Director Kevin Kennedy says they have some reorganzing to do.

"We'll go back and look at the procedures to instruct the staff to do what's in line with the court order," said Kennedy.

Joe Olson of "Friends of Scott Walker" told TODAY'S TMJ4, "I think the court made a very firm statement.  The integrity of this process matters and the gab has to take affirmative steps in assuring that valid signatures are the only signatures counted."

The Government Accountability Board now has to ask for extra funds from the legislature to take care of these steps.

  1. The GAB can save a lot of time by simply asking the state GOP for a list of the fake names their minions were using when fraudulently signing those petitions they couldn't deface or destroy.
  2. I know the juveniles running this recall effort will get their signatures based solely on the 2010 election results. But it sure is satisfying to know they will have to follow the rules to get to their magic number of signatures.
  3. @DavidEMartin: Paranoid, much?
  4. Since the Walker opposition will do ANYTHING to get a recall. this is simply a reasonable(fair) step to take to insure that true Wisconsinite sentiments are represented. It's illegal to stuff ballot boxes, remember? Why would a petition be different?
