Family of New Berlin couple killed in New Year's car crash releases statement
NEW BERLIN- A Milwaukee teen is accused of causing a drunken crash that killed two people early on New Year's Day.
Seventeen-year-old Kelly Duke was charged Wednesday with seven felonies, including two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Ed and Jean Thaves were killed in that crash. A family spokesman released a statement about the crash Wednesday afternoon.
"Words do not seem adequate to express the loss of Ed and Jean in the tragic incident of New Year's Day. We are thankful for the outpouring of kindness expressed by those who knew and loved them."
"We ask that at this time of overwhelming sadness, our privacy be respected so that we may honor and celebrate the lives of Ed and Jean. We also ask no one judge the actions of the suspect in custody until all the facts in the case are known."
Neighbors tell TODAY'S TMJ4 Ed Thaves was an avid reader and a business man and a man who loved the lord. That's evident on his company website as he owned S.C. Chemical Company in Muskego.
